06:38 AM EDT, 10/10/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Nvidia ( NVDA ) 's artificial intelligence processors and other semiconductor shipments from the US are undergoing stringent checks in China as the country mobilizes customs officers to implement increased controls on chip imports, Financial Times reported Friday, citing three people with knowledge of the matter.
China is trying to reduce the dependence of its technology companies on US products after senior officials in Beijing determined domestic chips have reached performance standards that compare with Nvidia's ( NVDA ) China-specific chips, according to the report.
The aim of the inspections was initially to ensure that local companies stop ordering Nvidia's ( NVDA ) China-specific chips in line with guidance from Chinese regulators, the people told FT.
China's customs did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment, while Nvidia ( NVDA ) declined to comment on the matter.
