03:00 PM EDT, 10/24/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he will pull a controversial anti-tariff ad Monday, after it airs during the weekend's World Series games, Canada's CBC News is reporting Friday.
It noted U.S. President Donald Trump attacked the ad by the Ontario government, which uses quotes by former U.S. president Ronald Reagan to extol the virtues of free trade.
Trump said he is terminating all negotiations with Canada after the anti-tariff ad was broadcast to American audiences.
Prime Minister Mark Carney told reporters on Friday that Canada is prepared to continue trade talks "when the Americans are ready to have those discussions."
Meanwhile, Pope Leo lamented on Friday the frictions roiling relations between the United States and Canada, in a likely reference to U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to cut off U.S.-Canada trade talks, Reuters is reporting
"Canada and the United States....as we are sitting here, are experiencing great difficulties," Leo, the first U.S. pope, told a meeting at the Vatican. "Two countries that were once considered the closest allies at times have become separated from one another," he said.
