Aug 22, 2025 3:39 AM

06:25 AM EDT, 08/22/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI and Amazon ( AMZN )-backed (AMZN) Anthropic are tightening their grip over investors by clamping down on special purpose vehicles amid potential risks, the Financial Times reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Such investment vehicles are posing new risks for start-ups, expanding their list of investors in unpredictable and opaque ways, according to the report. Amid these concerns, Anthropic and OpenAI are limiting their use in funding rounds, the unnamed sources told the publication.

The two firms are now requiring full transparency on who is participating in funding rounds, the FT reported.

OpenAI and Anthropic didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
