06:43 AM EDT, 10/03/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI is asking its financiers to refrain from backing five competitors, Reuters reported Wednesday, citing unnamed sources.

Among those targeted by OpenAI are Amazon ( AMZN )-backed (AMZN) Anthropic, Elon Musk's xAI, Safe Superintelligence, Perplexity, and Glean, Reuters said.

The report said the request is not legally binding.

OpenAI and the five other companies did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
