03:08 PM EDT, 10/08/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI is exploring data-center capacity in Canada to support the country's digital and artificial intelligence sovereignty, The Globe and Mail reported Tuesday, citing Chief Global Affairs Officer Chris Lehane.

OpenAI may consider building infrastructure, buy compute capacity, or support government AI programs, with the company potentially serving as key tenant for data center builders in the country, The Globe and Mail quoted Lehane as saying in an interview.

Microsoft ( MSFT ) and OpenAI did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment on Wednesday.
