Market Chatter: OpenAI India Lawsuit Joined by More News Outlets, Publishers
Jan 27, 2025 4:16 AM

06:47 AM EST, 01/27/2025 (MT Newswires) -- A number of Indian news outlets have joined a lawsuit alleging improper use of copyrighted material by Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI, Reuters reported Monday, citing court documents.

The new outlets include the Indian Express, Hindustan Times, NDTV, and Digital News Publishers Association, which represents new outlets like Network18, Dainik Bhaskar, Zee News, India Today Group, and the Hindu.

Book publishers have also joined the lawsuit, first launched last year by the local news agency ANI, Reuters reported.

They allege that the AI platform has been using their content to train its language model without seeking permission, the report said.

OpenAI did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
