07:08 AM EDT, 06/30/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Google's ( GOOG ) artificial intelligence chips are being rented by OpenAI to power ChatGPT and other products, Reuters reported Friday, citing a source close to the matter.
OpenAI, a major buyer of Nvidia's ( NVDA ) graphics processing units, or GPUs, uses these AI chips both to train its models and for inference computing, where trained models apply knowledge to new data, the report said.
This partnership comes as Google ( GOOG ) broadens external access to its TPUs, attracting clients including Apple and AI startups Anthropic and Safe Superintelligence, both founded by former OpenAI executives, according to the report.
Google ( GOOG ) and OpenAI did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
