Market Chatter: OpenAI Seeks to Block India Publishers From Joining Copyright Lawsuit

09:03 AM EST, 01/28/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI is seeking to stop India's largest media companies from joining a copyright infringement lawsuit that has been gathering steam, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing court filings.

The lawsuit was launched by news agency ANI last year and several digital media outlets as well as book publishers have since sought to join, the report said.

OpenAI said ChatGPT only uses public information, Reuters said, adding that the case will next be heard in February.

OpenAI did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
