Market Chatter: OpenAI, Tokio Marine Holdings Collaborate to Develop AI Agents for Insurance
Sep 24, 2025 11:22 AM

02:01 PM EDT, 09/24/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI is collaborating with Japanese insurer Tokio Marine Holdings to develop artificial intelligence agents that analyze data to improve product planning and manage customer inquiries, Nikkei Asia reported Wednesday.

The partnership will begin with Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance, the group's main subsidiary, which will use OpenAI's deep research tool to craft sales strategies for branch offices across Japan. The system can scan product information and generate reports, with the goal of eventually creating region-specific proposals and plans, according to the report.

On the customer side, the insurer plans to shift part of its telephone inquiry services to AI agents, the report said.

Long term, Tokio Marine, with support from OpenAI, plans to integrate AI across its group companies in Japan and abroad to build infrastructure enabling systems to autonomously manage tasks like contract handling and document processing.

Both OpenAI and Tokio Marine Holdings didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.

Microsoft ( MSFT ) is OpenAI's largest investor, cloud provider, and commercial partner, integrating its models into products like Azure and Copilot while OpenAI remains independently governed.
