Market Chatter: OpenAI's Restructuring Offers Potential for IPO, CFO Says
May 28, 2025 10:07 AM

12:43 PM EDT, 05/28/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI's restructuring plans offer potential for the sale of shares to the public, Reuters reported Wednesday, citing OpenAI Chief Financial Officer Sarah Friar.

OpenAI's restructuring "gets us to an IPO-able event, if and when we want to," the executive said Wednesday at the Dublin Tech Summit, according to the report. "Nobody tweet in this room that Sarah Friar just said anything about OpenAI ultimately going public. I did not. I said it could happen."

Any decision on an IPO would also depend on the state of public markets and the readiness of the company, Friar said, according to the report.

OpenAI and Microsoft ( MSFT ) didn't immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
