Market Chatter: Pfizer Could Use White House Connections to Counter Novo Nordisk's Bid for Metsera
Oct 31, 2025 12:34 PM

03:18 PM EDT, 10/31/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Pfizer ( PFE ) could leverage its White House connections to counter Novo Nordisk's ( NVO ) bid for obesity biotech company Metsera ( MTSR ) , Reuters reported Friday, citing analysts, investors and lawyers.

Pfizer ( PFE ) Chief Executive Albert Bourla has close ties to US President Donald Trump, and if there is any political influence, "Pfizer ( PFE ) is on the right side of that equation," Bernstein Analyst Courtney Breen stated, according to the media outlet.

On Thursday, Metsera ( MTSR ) said Novo Nordisk's ( NVO ) bid is "superior" to Pfizer's ( PFE ) offer and that the US drugmaker has four trading days to make a counteroffer.

When asked for comment by MT Newswires on Friday, Pfizer ( PFE ) referred its Thursday statement saying Novo Nordisk's ( NVO ) bid is "illusory and cannot qualify as a superior proposal under Pfizer's ( PFE ) agreement with Metsera ( MTSR )" and the company could explore legal routes to challenge the rival offer.
