11:41 AM EDT, 10/08/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Planet Labs (PL) plans to build and launch around 40 Earth observation satellites, dubbed Owl, over the coming years to deliver high-resolution images in an hour, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, citing company CEO Will Marshall.
The Owl satellites will be powered by Nvidia ( NVDA ) chips and utilise artificial intelligence to identify objects and detect events more quickly, enabling clients to make real-time decisions, according to the report.
"Looking at the nature of modern war situations from Israel in the Middle East to Ukraine, people have seen that satellites and drones are critical to information advantage, which in turn is critical to their security," Marshall told the media outlet.
The initial test launch is scheduled for 2026-end, Marshall said, according to Bloomberg.
Planet Labs did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
