08:37 AM EDT, 10/16/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Ryanair Holdings ( RYAOF ) will lower passenger traffic estimates for next year because of anticipated Boeing (BA) delivery delays, Reuters reported on Wednesday, citing chief executive officer Michael O'Leary in an interview.
The discount airline's top official said the company has already adjusted for 20 planes due by the end of this year arriving in January and February, and that 30 Boeing aircraft scheduled to arrive in March, April, May, and June will be delayed, Reuters reported.
"I think we're clearly going to walk back our traffic growth for next year, because I don't think we're going to get all those 30 aircraft," O'Leary said.
O'Leary said the company "took a significant cost penalty" this year after staffing up to prepare for 50 Boeings but only receiving 30. "We want to avoid next year what we had this year," he said.
In an email to MT Newswires, a company spokesman said Ryanair ( RYAOF ) "can't add anything further" to O'Leary's comments.
