Oct 15, 2024 10:31 AM

08:43 AM EDT, 10/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Shell (SHEL) is being asked to pay at least $1 billion euro ($1.09 billion) in damages by the Russian General Prosecutor's office, the RIA news agency reported Tuesday, citing the Moscow Arbitration court.

Details of the general prosecutor's claims against Shell were not reported. The prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit earlier in October against eight Shell subsidiaries and the Moscow Arbitration court has scheduled a preliminary hearing for Dec. 11 relating to the case, according to a Reuters report.

Shell did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.

Shares of the energy company were down 3.2% in recent premarket activity.
