Market Chatter: Sony Prepares for Tariffs on Japan by Stockpiling in the US
Mar 5, 2025 12:38 PM

03:26 PM EST, 03/05/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Sony ( SONY ) and brewer Suntory are preparing for potential US tariffs on Japan by stockpiling their products in the country, Reuters reported late Tuesday, citing statements.

Sony Group's ( SONY ) president reportedly said that the company has built up US inventory for its gaming and electronics lines.

Suntory shipped tequila from its Mexican brands to the US ahead of the newly imposed 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada, Reuters reported, citing a company spokesperson.

Suntory also reportedly plans to reroute Scotch whisky sales to Europe and focus on American whiskey in the US, aiming to reduce the impact of any escalating tariff disputes.

Sony ( SONY ) and Suntory did not immediately respond to requests for a comment by MT Newswires.
