01:48 PM EDT, 05/21/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Southern Copper ( SCCO ) is planning to start construction of its stalled Tia Maria project in Peru by the end of the year or in H1 2025, Reuters reported, quoting the company's Vice President of Finance Raul Jacob.
Social conditions have improved following years of protests that stopped the mine's development, according to the report, citing Jacob.
"There are no pending licenses, we have all the authorizations and we have not stopped working with the communities," Jacob reportedly told Reuters.
Southern Copper ( SCCO ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
The company's shares were down 2.5% in recent trading.
