Market Chatter: Spotify Gets Probed by House Judiciary Committee Over Free Speech Censorship
Jul 29, 2025 11:38 AM

02:21 PM EDT, 07/29/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Spotify ( SPOT ) is being investigated by the US House Judiciary Committee over whether the EU and the Biden administration pressured it to censor free speech, The New York Post reported Tuesday, citing a letter by US Congressman Jim Jordan.

Jordan sent a letter to Spotify ( SPOT ) Chief Executive Daniel Ek, criticizing new EU and UK laws that require social media platforms, even US-based ones, to suppress "disinformation" and "harmful content" or face significant fines, the report said.

The Committee has ordered Spotify ( SPOT ) to preserve all documents and communications with foreign governments and individuals tied to the White House, with a deadline of Aug. 12 to deliver these to Congress, the report said.

Spotify ( SPOT ), the House Judiciary Committee, the White House, and the EU didn't immediately reply to MT Newswires' requests for comments.
