Market Chatter: Starbucks Unionized Baristas Plan to Go on Strike Across US Next Week
Nov 5, 2025 10:30 AM

01:05 PM EST, 11/05/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Starbucks' ( SBUX ) unionized baristas are planning to strike next week in a push for a labor contract after years of stalled negotiations, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, citing Silvia Baldwin, a Philadelphia barista and union delegate.

Starbucks Workers United, which represents employees at 550 of the company's 10,000 US stores, is preparing up to launch strikes in 25 cities on Nov. 13, coinciding with the coffee chain's holiday-themed Red Cup Day, the report said.

The labor actions may expand if progress toward finalizing a contract and resolution of legal disputes continues to stall, the report said.

"We are disappointed that Workers United, who only represents around 4% of our partners, has voted to authorize a strike instead of returning to the bargaining table," Starbucks ( SBUX ) spokesperson Jaci Anderson said in an emailed statement, according to Bloomberg.

Starbucks ( SBUX ) did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
