10:40 AM EDT, 08/13/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Switzerland may cut its order of 36 Lockheed Martin ( LMT ) F-35 stealth jets after talks with the US failed to secure a fixed-price contract, a setback that might add as much as 1.3 billion Swiss francs ($1.6 billion) to the cost, Bloomberg reported.
Switzerland's defense minister, Martin Pfister, said at a news conference that the government may buy fewer F-35s, though switching a different jet may be more expensive and take longer, the report said.
"The discussions clearly showed that the USA is not prepared to deviate from its position," meaning the price corresponds to the value negotiated between the US government and the manufacturer, the Swiss government said in a statement, according to Bloomberg.
