Market Chatter: Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, KFC Begin Removing Fresh Onions as Precautionary Measure Amid E. Coli Outbreak
Nov 3, 2024 11:01 AM

02:18 PM EDT, 10/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Yum! Brands' ( YUM ) Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and KFC ( YUM ) have begun removing fresh onions at some of their locations as a precautionary measure following an E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's (MCD) restaurants, Bloomberg reported Thursday.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday said that an E. coli outbreak in 10 states was linked to onions served on McDonald's Quarter Pounder burgers.

"We will continue following supplier and regulatory guidance to ensure the ongoing safety and quality of our food," Yum! Brands ( YUM ) reportedly told Bloomberg.

McDonald's supplier Taylor Farms has recalled yellow onions from its Colorado facility following the E. coli outbreak at the burger chain, according to multiple media outlets. Taylor Farms reportedly said no traces of E. coli had been found in the onions yet, and that the recall was issued as a precaution during a multistate health investigation.

Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and KFC ( YUM ) did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
