03:41 PM EST, 02/03/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Taiwan has fully barred the use of DeepSeek by government officials citing security threats, Reuters reported Monday, citing a statement from the Office of Taiwan President Cho Jung-tai.
The ministry warned last week that DeepSeek, as a Chinese ICT product, could potentially pose cybersecurity threat and recommended not using it, Taipei Times had reported Saturday. On Monday, the government banned it.
The decision is based on a 2019 regulation that prohibits use of ICT products posing cybersecurity risks.
Jung-tai said during a cabinet meeting that DeepSeek is banned for use at all government agencies, Reuters reported.
DeepSeek did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
