Market Chatter: Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Chair Says Moving Chip Plants Out of Island Impossible
Jun 4, 2024 4:47 AM

07:16 AM EDT, 06/04/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing ( TSM ) considered relocating parts of its chip foundry business off the island amid rising tensions with China but finally determined that such a move would be impossible, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing the company's chairman, C.C. Wei, as telling reporters following its annual shareholder meeting.

Wei discussed the possibility of relocating some of the company's facilities with unidentified customers, but the company decided against it because 80% to 90% of its production capacity is in Taiwan, the report said.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing ( TSM ) did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
