Market Chatter: Talen Energy Requests Rehearing on FERC's Rejected Amazon Data Center Power Agreement
Nov 22, 2024 4:37 AM

07:13 AM EST, 11/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Talen Energy ( TLN ) has requested a rehearing of its rejected agreement to increase power to an Amazon ( AMZN ) data center located at its Pennsylvania nuclear plant, Reuters reported late Thursday, citing a filing.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Nov. 1 rejected an amended interconnection agreement to increase the capacity of an Amazon ( AMZN ) data center connected to Talen's Susquehanna nuclear plant in Pennsylvania.

"With only a few cursory paragraphs of flawed analysis, the (FERC) erroneously rejected a privately negotiated agreement that was supported by all signatories and in so doing damaged U.S. economic and national security interests," Reuters quoted Talen as saying in a rehearing request.

The regulator failed to implement the correct legal procedure and did not explain why it rejected the pact, the report said, citing Talen.

Talen, Amazon ( AMZN ), and the regulator did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
