06:08 AM EDT, 08/20/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Tesla (TSLA) chief executive officer Elon Musk is backing away from plans to start a political party, the Wall Street Journal reported late Tuesday, citing people with knowledge of the matter.
The Journal reported that Musk has told allies that he seeks to focus his attention on his companies, which also include SpaceX, the X social media platform, and several AI initiatives.
Musk has maintained ties with Vice President JD Vance and is considering backing him in 2028 even as his relations with President Donald Trump have frayed, the report said.
The report cited Musk's allies as saying that he has not yet formally ruled out creating a new party and may change his mind.
Tesla, SpaceX, and a law firm representing Musk did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
