Market Chatter: Tesla Reportedly Abandoned Scheme to Begin Producing Robots This Year
Oct 8, 2025 4:45 AM

07:21 AM EDT, 10/08/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Tesla (TSLA) has abandoned its target to begin producing thousands of its Optimus humanoid robots by the end of this year, The Information reported Tuesday, citing people with direct knowledge of the program.

The news comes ahead of the company's November annual meeting, where Elon Musk was planning to show off a dancing troupe of Optimus robots in order to entice shareholders into voting in favor of his proposed trillion-dollar compensation package, the report said.

Musk has argued that the robots will eventually surpass EVs as Tesla's main business, the report said. But "the Optimus program has been embroiled in technical problems," the tech news platform reported.

The report also cast doubt on Musk's plan to include a robot on a planned SpaceX mission to Mars' surface in 2027, as the machines are not designed to withstand the red planet's extreme cold.

Tesla did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
