12:22 PM EST, 01/22/2025 (MT Newswires) -- TotalEnergies (TTE) has further delayed its liquefied natural gas project worth $20 billion in Mozambique amid prevailing security concerns and political uncertainty, the Financial Times reported Wednesday.
Violence in the wake of a disputed presidential election in Mozambique in October prompted postponing the plans to restart the project by the end of 2024, according to the report.
The project also faces uncertainties over funding commitments made prior to 2020, when it was launched, with the US financing through a $4.7 billion loan frozen after the company declared force majeure in 2021 following a terrorist attack near one of its sites, the report said.
TotalEnergies did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
