10:44 AM EDT, 10/28/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Toyota Motor ( TM ) and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone intend to collaborate on researching and developing a driver assistance system that uses next-generation optical communication infrastructure and artificial intelligence, Nippon reported Monday, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter.
The companies plan to spend 500 billion yen ($3.27 billion) to develop the traffic accident prevention technology with potential commercialization in 2028, according to the report.
The system will use Nippon Telegraph and Telephone's IOWN platform to handle the massive data load required for analysis, the report added.
Neither Toyota ( TM ) nor Nippon Telegraph and Telephone immediately responded to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
Shares of Toyota ( TM ) were up 2% in recent trading.
