04:07 PM EDT, 05/07/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Transportadora de Gas del Sur ( TGS ) is pausing plans for a small liquefied natural gas plant in Argentina to ship Argentina's increasing shale gas production, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.
The decision came as state-run energy giant YPF rallies for broad industry support for its large-scale project, the report said.
TGS had been planning its own plant with Excelerate Energy ( EE ) and secured space on Argentina's Atlantic coast. However the company is now considering joining YPF's larger project with Petronas, Bloomberg reported, citing TGS Chief Financial Officer Alejandro Basso on an earnings call.
YPF plans to begin LNG exports in 2027, with plans to increase volumes afterward. Pampa Energia ( PAM ) , TGS's largest shareholder, expressed interest in participating in the YPF-Petronas project.
Excelerate Energy ( EE ) declined Bloomberg's request for comment.
None of the companies immediately responded to MT Newswires' request for comment.
