07:02 AM EDT, 10/07/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Trump administration officials are evaluating options to sell off parts of the government's $1.6 trillion student loan portfolio, Politico reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Senior officials from the Education Department and the Treasury Department have held talks, focusing on selling high-performing portions of the student debt portfolio, the report said.
Officials have also discussed the issue with executives from the finance industry, including potential buyers of the debt, the report said.
The White House did not immediately respond to an MT Newswires request for comment.
