Market Chatter: Trump Administration Explores Plan to Eliminate Education Department
Feb 4, 2025 3:53 AM

06:33 AM EST, 02/04/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that the Trump administration is considering dismantling significant parts of the US Department of Education and potentially reassigning some responsibilities to other federal agencies, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The order, which is tied to Elon Musk's initiative to streamline government operations, will also reportedly outline a legislative proposal to fully dissolve the department. However, this would require approval from Congress.

WSJ reported that advisers have suggested postponing the order until after Education Secretary nominee Linda McMahon's Senate confirmation hearing, which remains unscheduled.

The news outlet added the opponents have cautioned against eliminating the department, with a recent poll revealing that 61% of voters are against its removal, the report added.

The White House did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
