07:43 PM EDT, 06/01/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The Trump administration intends to abandon a $1.8 billion legal fund for victims of alleged government "weaponization," Bloomberg reported, citing a person familiar with the matter.
The fund had drawn bipartisan criticism, with lawmakers from both parties deriding it as a slush fund for Trump's political allies. It also faced multiple lawsuits, including from police officers who responded to the January 6 Capitol attack, and a federal judge in Virginia last week temporarily barred the administration from operating it.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune welcomed the expected move, telling reporters "the best way forward is for the administration to shut it down themselves," the report added.
The Justice Department said it "disagreed strongly" with the court's ruling but would abide by it, the report said.
