02:03 PM EDT, 03/12/2025 (MT Newswires) -- President Donald Trump said the US would respond to the European Union's countermeasures against his new 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum, Bloomberg News reported Wednesday.
"Of course I'm going to respond. The problem is our country didn't respond. Look, the EU was set up in order to take advantage of the US," Trump told reporters at the White House, according to the report.
His comments follow the European Commission's "swift and proportionate countermeasures" on US imports, the report said. The EC said earlier Wednesday that it will impose tariffs on up to 26 billion euros ($28.36 billion) worth of US goods in response to the US tariffs on EU steel and aluminum imports.
