Market Chatter: Uber, Lyft Bid to Avoid California Driver Lawsuits Declined by US Supreme Court
Oct 7, 2024 9:04 AM

11:30 AM EDT, 10/07/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Uber Technologies ( UBER ) and fellow ride-hailing company Lyft's ( LYFT ) challenge to California lawsuits on behalf of drivers who struck deals to keep legal disputes with the companies out of court over their status as contractors was declined by the US Supreme Court, Reuters reported Monday.

The justices rebuffed appeals by Uber ( UBER ) and Lyft ( LYFT ) of a lower court's ruling that let California's attorney general and labor commissioner pursue claims that the two companies owe money to drivers who were misclassified as independent contractors instead of employees, according to the report.

Uber ( UBER ) and Lyft ( LYFT ) didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for a comment.
