Market Chatter: UBS Gets Support From Swiss Politicians, Lobbyists for Compromise on Capital Rules
Oct 3, 2025 3:45 AM

06:30 AM EDT, 10/03/2025 (MT Newswires) -- UBS Group ( UBS ) is receiving support from Swiss politicians and lobbyists for a compromise with the country's government on new capital requirements, The Financial Times reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The Liberals, the Swiss People's Party, and the Swiss Bankers Association are in early discussions on a possible solution that would require UBS to raise about $10 billion less than the federal government's proposal, the report said.

UBS and the finance ministry are not involved in the talks, the report added.

Switzerland's Federal Department of Finance did not comment on the report, but said that a consultation process regarding the new capital requirements would last until Jan. 9, 2026.

UBS did not immediately respond to an MT Newswires request for comment.
