08:53 AM EDT, 03/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- United Airlines (UAL) and American Airlines ( AAL ) are in talks with Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson as the city struggles with an $8.5 billion upgrade for O'Hare International Airport, Bloomberg News reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

With the project well behind schedule and projected to be billions over budget, Johnson is discussing the city's options with the airlines, such as using cheaper materials and tweaking the project design, the report said.

The two airlines and Johnson's office did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
