12:00 PM EDT, 07/11/2025 (MT Newswires) -- United Airlines (UAL) and JetBlue Airways' ( JBLU ) proposed Blue Sky partnership could reduce competition and raise fares, Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal warned in a letter to the companies' chief executives, Reuters reported Friday.
Blumenthal asked both CEOs to provide details about the Blue Sky agreement, which allows customers to book flights on either airline's website and share frequent flyer benefits, as well as any future plans tied to the deal, the media outlet reported.
The senator raised concerns that the deal might limit fair competition and lead to fewer and more expensive travel options, especially in the New York City area, according to the report.
United Airlines, JetBlue ( JBLU ) and Blumenthal did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
United shares were down about 3.5%, and JetBlue's ( JBLU ) stock was 2.5% lower in recent trading Friday.
