07:51 AM EDT, 06/10/2024 (MT Newswires) -- United States Steel ( X ) employees and community leaders in Indiana and Pennsylvania showed "positive reaction" during talks with Nippon Steel Vice Chairman Takahiro Mori last week regarding Nippon Steel's proposed takeover of US Steel, Reuters reported Saturday, citing a Nippon Steel spokesperson.
Mori discussed the Japanese steelmaker's plans, including investments in blast furnaces and job commitments, the report said.
"We are pleased to see the positive and supportive reaction to Mori's visits, and we remain focused on directly communicating our vision to the people who stand to benefit the most from this transaction," Reuters quoted the Nippon Steel spokesperson as saying in an email.
Neither US Steel nor Nippon Steel immediately responded to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
