03:59 PM EDT, 05/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- A bill that would make it easier for President Joe Biden to restrict the export of artificial intelligence systems cleared the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday, Reuters reported.
The lawmakers voted to advance the bill seeking to address concerns that China could acquire AI systems for their technological advancement, particularly in military operations, the report said.
Under the bill, the Commerce Department will also be given express authority to bar Americans from working with foreigners to develop AI systems that pose risks to US national security, it said.
The Chinese Embassy in Washington did not immediately reply to Reuters' request for comment, it said.
The embassy also did not immediately respond to a similar request from MT Newswires.
