12:46 PM EDT, 06/05/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US, Canada and Mexico are expected to miss a July 1 deadline to formally renew the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Rather than renewing the pact, the Trump administration is expected to trigger an indefinite review period while pursuing separate bilateral talks with Canada and Mexico, with side deals likely to address trade irritants without altering the agreement's legal text, the report said.
US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer has indicated the administration seeks concessions through side letters rather than a congressional vote, according to the report.
Canadian officials are bracing for tariff negotiations that could drag on through the end of Trump's term in 2029, Bloomberg said.
The US Trade Representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
