04:40 PM EDT, 05/30/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The trade truce between the US and China, reached earlier in May in Geneva, is at risk as Beijing delays approvals for rare-earth mineral export licenses, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
The agreement was based on an understanding that China would resume rare-earth exports in exchange for a 90-day suspension of tariffs by the US, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter.
As part of the pact, both sides suspended most of the tariffs imposed on each other. However, US officials now accuse China of not following through on its commitments, particularly in approving export licenses for critical materials used in automobiles, semiconductors, and other technologies.
President Donald Trump said Friday on Truth Social that "China, perhaps not surprisingly to some, HAS TOTALLY VIOLATED ITS AGREEMENT WITH US."
