05:58 AM EST, 03/04/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The US government office responsible for a $52 billion chip subsidy program is set to lose roughly two-fifths of its employees under President Donald Trump's planned workforce reductions, Bloomberg News reported Monday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The job cuts include some 20 employees who accepted a voluntary deferred resignation and quit the Chips Program Office last week, the unnamed sources told the news outlet.
Roughly 40 people are considered probationary and will be terminated Monday, Bloomberg reported, citing one of the sources.
The Commerce Department did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment on the matter.
