06:03 AM EST, 02/19/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The Federal Aviation Administration fired about 400 probationary workers over the weekend raising new concerns for air safety, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.
The impacted employees, who were on federal payrolls for less than a year, received notices saying that their further employment at the FAA is no longer in public interest based on their performance, according to copies viewed by WSJ.
The terminations included workers in safety-related and technical roles, as well as defense programs, government and industry officials said, adding that administrative and legal staff were also fired.
However, air-traffic controllers and aviation-safety inspectors were not impacted, according to a statement from the Transportation Department.
The FAA did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment on the matter.
