Market Chatter: US Planning to Cut Banks' Capital Requirements
May 26, 2025 8:27 AM

07:13 AM EDT, 05/15/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The US government plans to lower the capital requirements for banks and could reduce the supplementary leverage ratio in the next few months, the Financial Times reported Thursday, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter.

Sources said the cut in capital requirements could rank among the biggest reductions in over 10 years as part of the Trump administration's deregulation agenda, according to the report.

The Federal Reserve, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comments.
