12:35 PM EDT, 06/04/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US prosecutors are attempting to extradite an Israeli private investigator from London as it looks into an alleged hacking-for-hire operation that targeted opponents of Exxon Mobil ( XOM ) and Elliott Management, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing court documents and people familiar with the matter.
The probe is keyed on the investigator's work with DCI Group, a prominent Washington, DC-based lobbying firm that has counted Exxon and Elliott as clients, according to the report, which cited the people.
The Elliott portion of the investigation is tied to the company's multi-year effort to make Argentina pay the billions it owed on defaulted sovereign debt, some of the people told the WSJ. A separate thread of the investigation is exploring hacking efforts aimed at Exxon's climate critics, including the Rockefeller family, according to the report.
None of Elliott, Exxon or DCI have been accused of wrongdoing, according to the report. None of the three companies immediately responded to requests for comment.
