Market Chatter: US Prosecutors Reportedly Recommend Justice Department to File Criminal Charges Against Boeing for Violating 2021 Settlement Terms
Jun 24, 2024 3:49 AM

06:44 AM EDT, 06/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Prosecutors reportedly recommended the US Justice Department senior officials file criminal charges against Boeing ( BA ) after finding in May that the company violated the 2021 settlement related to two fatal crashes involving the 737 MAX jet, Reuters reported Monday, citing two people familiar with the matter.

The report said the Justice Department needs to decide by July 7 whether to file the charges.

In 2021, Boeing ( BA ) agreed to pay $2.5 billion and committed to overhaul its compliance practices and submit regular reports as part of the agreement with the Justice Department to settle criminal charges of conspiracy to commit fraud related to crashes in 2018 and 2019 involving the 737 MAX jet.

Boeing ( BA ) did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
