01:38 PM EDT, 09/29/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The US Transportation Department is writing a new rule on protections for passengers with wheelchairs and will not enforce certain provisions of the rule issued during the Biden administration, Reuters reported Monday, citing a filing by the agency.
Carriers Delta Air Lines ( DAL ) , United Airlines (UAL), Southwest Airlines ( LUV ) , American Airlines ( AAL ) and JetBlue Airways ( JBLU ) , and trade group Airlines for America had challenged the Biden era DOT rule, which set stricter standards for accommodating passengers using wheelchairs.
According to Reuters, the DOT will not enforce the rule imposing airlines liability for mishandled wheelchairs nor the rule requiring airlines to notify passengers of their rights when they check in their wheelchairs or scooters.
Delta Air Lines ( DAL ), United Airlines, Southwest Airlines ( LUV ), American Airlines ( AAL ) and JetBlue ( JBLU ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
