Market Chatter: US SEC Weighs Making Quarterly Reporting Optional for Public Companies
Mar 17, 2026 3:05 AM

05:54 AM EDT, 03/17/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US Securities and Exchange Commission is readying a proposal that would make quarterly earnings reporting optional and allow companies to report results twice a year, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The proposal could be released as soon as April, with regulators already in discussions with major exchanges on potential rule adjustments, according to the report.

The rule would not eliminate quarterly reporting entirely but give companies the choice to shift to semiannual disclosures, the WSJ reported.

The SEC didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
