12:35 PM EDT, 10/14/2025 (MT Newswires) -- President Donald Trump may impose 100% tariffs on China, depending on how Beijing responds in the ongoing dispute over rare earth materials, CNBC reported Tuesday, citing its interview with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
Greer said the tariffs could be implemented as soon as Nov. 1 or sooner, and the decision will depend on China's actions, adding that "they are the ones who have chosen to make this major escalation," according to the report.
Last week, China announced broad restrictions on rare earth exports. The move came ahead of a planned meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping later this month at the APEC summit in Seoul, the report added.
