Jun 25, 2024 3:50 AM

06:34 AM EDT, 06/25/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Seven major airlines are eligible to apply for five new daily roundtrip flights from Washington Reagan National Airport, Reuters reported Monday, citing the US Transportation Department.

Eligible airlines include American Airlines ( AAL ) , Delta Air Lines ( DAL ) , United Airlines (UAL), Southwest Airlines ( LUV ) , JetBlue ( JBLU ) , Air Canada, and Alaska Airlines (ALK), the report said.

The report added that applications should include no more than one backup service proposal, and flights are required to start by mid-July.

Delta supported the change, while United opposed it. Southwest ( LUV ) plans a daily Washington-Las Vegas flight, American aims for a Washington-San Antonio route, and Alaska seeks a Washington-San Diego connection, according to the report.
