Market Chatter: US Weighs Ban of Bestselling Router on Amazon Over Links to Chinese Cyberattacks
Dec 18, 2024 6:27 AM

09:03 AM EST, 12/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Multiple US agencies are investigating whether to ban TP-Link, a Chinese router manufacturer that is the bestseller on Amazon.com ( AMZN ) , over links to cyberattacks, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Authorities at the Departments of Commerce, Defense and Justice have opened up separate probes into the company, and the US could ban the sale of TP-Link routers in the country next year, the people reportedly told the Journal.

A Microsoft ( MSFT ) analysis published in October found that a Chinese hacking entity maintains a network of thousands of compromised TP-Link routers, and the network has been used to launch cyberattacks, according to the report.
